The Spring/Summer 2020 Runway Show

Introducing Evolution, Riccardo Tisci’s Spring/Summer 2020 runway show for Burberry, unveiled on 16 September in London. A celebration of new house codes, a juxtaposition of heritage and modernity.

Influenced by the Victorian era – the time in which Burberry was founded – the collection explored the stories at the heart of the house through a distinctly modern lens.

Guests were seated around an oversized mirrored cube which, as the show started, raised to expose a unique Victorian-inspired sound system installation playing a soundtrack designed exclusively for Burberry by William Djoko.

‘This is a collection inspired by our past and dedicated to
our future. It’s the evolution of our Burberry kingdom.’

Riccardo Tisci

A Victorian-inspired silhouette created cinched waists and elaborate sleeves for both men and women. A hand-painted collage of animals printed on silk scarves spilled from blouses, trench coats and knitwear. Crystal embellishment detailed tailoring, outerwear and elegant gowns.

For the Burberry man, the English-fit suit was reimagined in soft tonal shades and textural contrasts – cinched at the waist with utility-style belts. Sporty rugby shirts and hoodies were updated with knitted panels and zip details.

Our new bag, Anne, debuted on the runway – an equestrian-inspired shape, detailed with iconic Thomas Burberry Monogram hardware and leather bridle straps. Contrasting the playful Lola bag, in a new iteration as a bum bag, and the giant Pocket Bag.

Runway Beauty

Make-up artist Pat McGrath created the beauty looks for Evolution, our Spring/Summer 2020 runway show.
